Today, the spectators can easily watch football, tennis, basketball, etc. Popularity of these sports around the globe is not disputed. This does not ignore the inevitable reality of sailing to become extremely popular all over the world.

In Match Race, particular attention is given to the boats. Each team gets an exactly the same boat, which brings the skills of the skipper and its crew during the race. Match Race is a round robin tournament where two sailboats (each one has a team) get matched and compete among themselves with different pillars and until each team is eliminated.

The race is conducted on a course where start and end points that are close to the shore and is similar to the oval shape. Start line, between the two buoys are deployed at right angles to the wind, which is a starting line. The boats will start from this line is perpendicular to the wind and they will race up to the first buoy. And then, the boats will round the first buoy and head down by flying their genoa or spinnakers to the second buoy. The second buoy is about 50 meters above the start line. After finishing this sausage like trip (usually 2-3 times between the first and second buoys), which ever boat crosses the start line, it will finish the race first. Races take approximately half an hour. During the last leg of the course is the most excited moments for the spectators on beaches.

During the race, nobody is allowed in or near the course but two racing boats; After the race ends, teams change places and boats. The change is usually are provided by referee boats and, or stand by rescue boats.
